Our offense went HAM
Where was the defense though, man?
Never was in doubt
Well that kind of sucked. The thing is, it wasn’t one of those absolute shaming type games. The Deacs fought the whole way, and hanging 37 points on a squad that hadn’t yet given up 20. I really can’t say the defense was terrible, but boy howdy did the experienced offensive line of the Fighting Irish absolutely murder us. We were pretty stout on traditional runs, but the passing game and quarterback runs were almost instant massive gains.
John Wollford continued his stalwart senior campaign, going 28-45 for 341 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an uncharacteristic pick 6. On the ground he chipped in another 59 yards and another touchdown. Matt Colburn had a great day, 120 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries for a rather crazy 6.0 YPC. Alex Bachman had a career day catching, 8 snags for 115 yards and a touchdown, and both Scotty Washington and Cam Serigne continued to be reliable big targets. As far as the defense, you probably wanna pretty much burn the tape on both sides.
Honestly, this was as encouraging of a “never in doubt” loss as you can get. It sounds stupid, but nobody we play the rest of the year is anywhere near as good as the Irish, and the tenor of this game was kind of like the first Rocky. We lost, but we came away with more respect than most people would have thought coming in, and there’s plenty of reason to hope for the future. Let’s get our win next week, shall we? I wanna go bowling.
On to the next. Go Deacs.
