I don’t understand. I don’t understand how, in a four guard lineup, we can go 2/15 from three (with shooters proven to be better than that many times over) and only 9 assists, probably half of which were in garbage time. Doral Moore DID put his heart and soul into it, so good on him. He had 14 and 9 on 7-8 shooting and only 2 fouls. It is a damn shame that no one else on the team except perhaps Bryant Crawford, who had 21 points on 7-14 and 7-7 from the line, followed Doral’s lead.
I’m hurt. I’m angry. I’m confused. I believed in this team and these coaches and they proceeded to put forth literally the most pathetic performance I’ve ever seen. I don’t think there’s ever been, nor will there ever be, a two game stretch worthy of firing, especially coming off of an NCAA Tournament berth and what seemed to be year-upon-year improvements. That said, this is as close as I’ve ever seen. Stop the 4 guard trash. Stop taking out players when they’re on fire just because of a foul. If you’re only a bit taller than me (unless your name is Chris Paul) stop driving at 3 or more dudes taller than you headlong and expect anything other than tragedy to happen. Stop jacking up garbage threes just because you can.
Bryant was far from perfect, mind you, but at least he was productively aggressive on both ends, nabbing 4 steals and actually getting something out of his drives to the basket. This is pathetic. There’s enough blame to go around. I love you guys, my loyal readers, but I don’t know when I’ll read the comments on this piece because this game made me hate sports. It’ll pass, like it always does, but I’m sad, I’m mad, I’m tired, I feel gross. I don’t have the mental or emotional energy necessary to further engage with sports for at least a few days.
In short, I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
