Predictions: Wake Forest at Georgia Tech

Wake Forest heads south to Atlanta, what does the Blogger So Dear crew expect from the Deacons?

Wake Forest returns from a one week hiatus to square off against a Georgia Tech team coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Miami. Did the Deacs use the bye week to get prepared to face the Yellow Jacket option offense? Will Georgia Tech be able to establish their run game against the best rush defense they’ve played all year? Let’s see what the Blogger So Dear staff thinks.

Cam: Wake wins 28-24

Elijah: Wake has had some extra time to prepare for the option attack from Georgia Tech. The extra week gives the Demon Deacon defense just enough edge to escape Atlanta with a victory. Wake 28 GTech 24.

Jake: Tech wins 28-14

Riley: I'll take Tech 24-21. Wake gets up early but a few big plays from Tech spell disaster for the Deacs and the Yellow Jackets win on a late field goal.

Rob: I’ll also take the Jackets to win 24-21. I see the Deacs playing very sound football in this one, but ultimately I think Paul Johnson and the Yellow Jackets will convert a timely fourth down conversion to secure a victory.

Adam: GT wins 24-17. I think this will be a close game due to the way GT consumes the ball and our defensive's ability to stop the run. Being on the road, I give GT the advantage but a couple of turnovers could give Wake the victory.

Ed: Georgia Tech 27 Wake Forest 21. The flexbone triple-option run by Paul Johnson’s offense proves too much for the Deacs to handle. Without a change to the playbook to open up the offense, the run-pass option that the Deacs have run all season simply isn’t enough to keep up with the triple-option. Look for some big rushing numbers to be put up by Tech in this one.

Ned: Georgia Tech 31-17. The triple-option wears the Wake defense down in the first half and puts the Jackets up early in Atlanta. The Deacs never really looks in sync and can't find the big play to ever swing the momentum back in their favor. Next week vs. Louisville becomes an absolutely massive game.

Bart: Wake wins 31-17. This is probably a total homer pick. Wake has traditionally struggled in Atlanta, but this is a new team and a new season. With a close loss to FSU and a Clemson game where the Deacs fought back despite going down big early, the 4-2 Deacs are primed to play a big-time night game to get back to .500 in the conference and within one win of bowl eligibility. Bottom line, I think Georgia Tech is a solid team but I also believe Wake remains underrated by nearly everyone - including a large portion of its own fan base.

The Deacs tout one of the best defenses in the ACC and with an impressive front four, I believe Wake will mix up enough looks (including moving Duke around everywhere to wreak havoc) to keep Georgia Tech guessing. Wake will jump all over the inevitable Tech fumbles and the secondary will do their job and keep the Jacket receivers in front of them for the deep looks. The major concern in this one for Wake is the play of the linebackers, given the importance of the second level against the Tech rush-heavy offense. But today, I believe the Deacs bring it defensively, the special teams plays their best game of the season, and Wolford protects the ball on offense to put the ball in the end zone. Deacs take care of business and seal the deal with a late pick 6 from Essang Bassey as the Jackets try to tie it up.
