DB Jessie Bates III wins ACC Defensive Back of the Week

The freshman had two interceptions, and took one back for a touchdown in the 33-28 win over Indiana

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Congratulations to freshman safety Jessie Bates III, who collected his first ever accolade as a Wake Forest Demon Deacon, winning the ACC Defensive Back of the Week award. Bates was a big reason for the Deacs 33-28 win over the Indiana Hoosiers

This probably isn't a surprise to anybody who saw the game, as Bates had two interceptions, his first and second in the Old Gold and Black. The first interception changed the tune of the game, as it came in the Wake end zone as Indiana was trying to take a two possession lead. The second pick led directly to a 14-7 Wake Forest lead, as Bates took it back 55 yards for his first career touchdown.

Bates has gotten off to a torrid start this year, and leads the team in tackles with 26, and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions (Brad Watson). This is turning into quite the steal for Coach Clawson and staff, as Bates decommitted from Toledo and committed to Wake late in the 2015 recruiting class cycle.
