Indiana Players To Watch

Which Hoosiers should you keep an eye on this Saturday?

For the first time since 2008, the Deacs are 3-0 and halfway to going bowling. Standing in the way of 4-0 is an undefeated Indiana team that Wake Forest will play in Bloomington this Saturday. If the Deacs want to come out on top, they’ll want to pay close attention to a couple of Hoosiers that could have a big impact on the outcome of the game.

Offense: Devine Redding, Jr. RB

Redding finished the 2015 season as one of Indiana’s two 1000 yard rushers with 1012 yards and 9 TDs. He closed out the year with an impressive performance in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl against Duke, running the ball 35 times for 227 yards and a TD. In the Hoosiers 2 games this season, he has run the ball 48 times for 245 yards (5.1 avg), increasing his 100+ yard streak that started late in 2015 to 5 games. The Deacon defense has been pretty good against the run this season, but considering how well Indiana ran the ball against the Deacs last year (43 carries for 216 yards and 1 TD by the RBs), the defense may have a tough time keeping Redding from running for over 100 yards for the 6th straight game.

Defense: Rashard Fant, RS Jr. DB

Fant had an outstanding 2015, finishing the season 2nd in the nation in passes defended with 22, while also adding 52 total tackles and 1 Int. Through 2 game this season, he already has 4 passes defended and 1 int, which he returned for a TD. With Hinton and Carney out this Saturday, the Deacs are likely going to have to rely more on the passing game than they have so far. That will provide Fant with plenty of opportunities to make a big plays and keep Wake Forest from moving the ball. Wolford may want to be extra careful when throwing the ball in Fant’s direction.
