According to Les Johns at Deacon Digest (Scout), true freshman Cade Carney will miss today’s with a knee injury. The extent of the injury at this point is unknown, but sources close to Blogger So Dear indicate that it is more than likely a multi-week issue.

The injury occurred this week at practice, but no further details about the incident are available at this time.

This will allow Matt Colburn and Tyler Bell to receive an increased workload, and also presents redshirt freshman Rocky Reid with a golden opportunity to get snaps and prove to the staff that he should be a part of the rotation moving forward.

Regardless, this is a big blow to the Wake Forest offense, as Carney became the first Demon Deacon true freshman to run for 3 touchdowns in Chris Barclay in 2002. With 108 yards on 17 carries, Carney was the first Wake RB to eclipse the 100 yard mark since 2012 against Army (DeAndre Martin and Josh Harris).

While this will (hopefully) not impact the result of today’s game against Delaware, if Carney is going to miss more than a game , this could be a problem for the Deacs. Wake heads to Indiana next week for a non-conference game, and then to Raleigh the following week for an ACC Atlantic clash.

We wish the best of luck to Cade as he recovers from this injury, and hope it is a quick and painless recovery.
