Our countdown to kickoff continues with Arkeem Byrd, who is a freshman running back out of Savannah, Georgia. Byrd’s signature on National Signing Day brought great joy to the Wake Forest coaching staff, and Byrd should make Wake Forest fans very excited for years to come. In a last-minute decision, Byrd faxed his national letter of intent to Wake Forest. He chose the Deacs over offers from Missouri, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota.
Arkeem Byrd was a consensus 3-star prospect, who was a consensus top-70 athlete in the country. He’s a very interesting player for the Deacs this year, because I truly do not know if he will play for the Deacs this coming season. The backfield is crowded, but I do not believe that any other back on this team has the breakaway ability that Byrd does. You can tell from his highlights that he is a long touchdown run waiting to happen.
In my opinion, Clawson has to find a way to get Byrd on the field, and allow him to make plays. If he gets on the field, then I expect him to break a few this season. I’m excited to watch how the backs perform this season, and how they develop throughout their careers.
