Wake Forest Basketball: Demon Deacons to Host Charlotte This Season

NCAA Basketball: Conference USA Tournament-Charlotte vs Middle Tennessee Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Keyshawn Woods will be competing against some familiar faces this season. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports is reporting that Wake Forest will begin a home-and-home series with Charlotte this season, with Wake Forest being the first team to host.

Charlotte is led by Mark Price, who is entering his second season with the 49ers. Charlotte went just 14-19 last season, and was 187th in Ken Pomeroy’s rankings. The team got much better throughout the season, however, as they were ranked as low as 304th. Fortunately for the Deacs, Charlotte loses 6’10” Joseph Uchebo, who had an offensive rating of 117 last season, and was also a sensational rebounder. The player to watch is Braxton Ogbueze, who is a guard who can really stroke it from beyond the arc.

Year three is a massively important year for Danny Manning, as he tries to build the Wake Forest basketball program back to prominence. Manning’s roster now consists entirely of his own players, and it will be interesting to watch play out. The Deacs should absolutely win this contest against Charlotte.

We will continue to monitor potential non-conference opponents as the season approaches.
