Wake Forest Football Recruiting: Tight End Braden Atkinson Commits to Wake Forest

The Deacs added an interesting prospect on Saturday.

The Wake Forest football program has added its 4th commitment in the 2017 recruiting class. Braden Atkinson, a tight end out of Maryland, announced on Twitter that he has committed to play football at Wake Forest University. What do we know about the tight end prospect?

Braden Atkinson stands at 6'4", 210 pounds, and is rated by Scout as a 3-star prospect. Scout ranks him as the best tight end in Maryland and the 37th best in the country. He attends Boys' Latin School, which is the same high school that current Wake Forest punter/kicker Dom Maggio attended. Atkinson finished his junior season with 58 receptions for 702 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Atkinson is not a traditional recruit in that sense that he was initially committed to play lacrosse at Johns Hopkins. For those unfamiliar, Hopkins is a national powerhouse in lacrosse. That speaks to his overall athleticism and potential ceiling now that he can focus on football. He has very good hands and routinely lines up in the slot. He will need to add weight, but he has the frame to do so.
