National Signing Day always presents drama, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons were no exception. The staff landed a huge late commitment today with the signing of Arkeem Byrd, who is a very talented running back out of Georgia. He is a top 1,000 player nationally according to 247 Sports, and chose Wake Forest over offers from Missouri, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota.

Byrd is 6'1", 190 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds. From his highlight tape below and his impressive offer sheet, it's pretty easy to tell why the coaching staff loved this kid. He took an official visit to Wake Forest in mid-January, but since then took official visits to Georgia Tech and Missouri. Missouri was definitely the favorite according to 247's Crystal Ball, but the Wake Forest coaching staff helped pull off the upset.
Byrd has the chance to play in Wake Forest's backfield from day one, and will be a very nice playmaker for the Deacs. Wake Forest has clearly struggled to run the ball in recent years, but the addition of Byrd will help solve that problem.
Please join me in officially welcoming Arkeem to Wake Forest!
