Dave Clawson and his staff look to continue Wake's dominant status as "Punter U" with the signing of Dom Maggio, who was ranked as one of the top punters in the nation for the class of 2016. Maggio is a five-star according to the Kohl's camp rating system.
Maggio hails from Baltimore, MD, where he attends the Boys Latin School. Listed currently at 6-2, 155, he should continue to grow and build more power into his leg.
Although Wake Forest was his only offer when he committed, he had interest from Duke, Florida, Maryland, Miami and a handful of other schools.
Coach Adam Scheier was the point man on Maggio's recruitment and did the majority of the "leg work" to get him to become a Demon Deacon.
According to the Chris Sailer Kicking Academy website, Maggio "has a big leg, and gets excellent height on his balls."
He also has a strong leg for kickoffs and has "potential to be a punter" as well. Maggio was named to the Under Armour All-America game as a punter after drilling three punts more than 50 yards in the qualifier round. In 2015, Maggio averaged 43.5 yards on 34 punts with a net average of 37.8. He put 14 inside the 20-yard line.
Maggio was the first commitment in the 2016 class and we would like to offer him a big welcome to the Wake Forest family. He is already enrolled at Wake Forest, and will participate in spring practice.
