Carlos Basham, a three-star prospect out of Roanoke, Virginia, who also held offers from Cincinnati, Maryland, and Pittsburgh, has officially signed with Wake Forest. He originally announced his decision on NBC 10 in Roanoke this past July. He is a fast-rising prospect, mostly due to his performances at camps, as well as the 20 pounds he has added since last football season. He has added at least 70 pounds since his freshman season and is currently listed at 6'4" 225 pounds. This past season he was named first-team all-state in Virginia's Class 3A.
Basham will join a host of other defensive ends in this class. With Basham's 4.5 speed, he will bring versatility to the Demon Deacons' defense. He is an ideal candidate for the "drop" position in the 4-2-5 scheme. He can pass rush, but can also be disguised as a pass rusher, and drop into coverage. Wake Forest has made a concentrated effort to recruit both offensive and defensive lines over the past three recruiting classes. I expect those positions to be strong in the near future.
Please join me in officially welcoming Carlos "Boogie" Basham!
