Wake Forest extended Pendleton High School wide receiver Malik Grate a scholarship offer late last April, and a week later he accepted that offer and committed to play football at Wake Forest University. He is listed as a two-star cornerback on Rivals, but the staff recruited him as a wide receiver. Last season Grate had 36 receptions for 475 yards and 7 touchdowns. His only other scholarship offer is from Furman, though he was receiving attention from the Clemson staff.
Pendelton, South Carolina defensive back Malik Grate has just committed to Wake Forest https://t.co/DSF8aCcC6M— Deacons Illustrated (@WakeRivals) April 29, 2015
Grate is the second wide receiver in the 2016 class to commit to the Deacs, with Jeremiah Brown out of High Point being the other. At this point, "sleeper" is probably the best term to describe Grate. His senior season will certainly be one to watch. Grate is yet another example of the staff placing a greater emphasis on recruiting players from South Carolina. According to 247Sports, Grate is the 365th best player nationally, and the 7th best in the state according to their standings. While Grate's composite scores are a bit more modest, it's exciting that he's getting a fair amount of hype from a place like 247Sports.
