Zander Zimmer, a 3-star defensive end out of Florida, has committed to Wake Forest. He chose Wake Forest over offers from Oregon, yes, you did read that correctly, Vanderbilt, Purdue, West Virginia, Duke, Virginia, and many others. 247 lists him as the 877th best player in the class, and as the 63rd best weakside defensive end in the 2016 recruiting class. Following his summer commit to Wake Forest, Zimmer went on to have a fantastic final year of high school football that concluded with a 5A State Championship victory in which he had 2 sacks, a blocked punt, and a safety to his name.He was also named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All District Team, as well as 5A All-State 2nd Team Defense.
Zimmer will give the Deacs some depth at the defensive end position, and will likely start the season spelling Duke Ejiofor at defensive end. He will likely gain more playing time as the year goes on as the coaching staff finds ways to put him in a position to make an impact on the field.
