Basketball season officially begins tonight, and we are almost done with our basketball player profiles. We continue with Greg McClinton, a redshirt junior out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. What can Wake Forest fans expect from Greg during the season?
Greg started the first 11 games of last season, but saw a steep decline in his minutes once conference play started. On the season, he averaged 11.1 minutes, 3.2 points, and 2.4 rebounds per contest. His biggest strength offensively is his athleticism (see video below), which allows him to sky to grab rebounds and get put backs. He was efficient in his field goal attempts last season, as he shot 54% from the field, but he has yet to make a 3-pointer during his Wake Forest career. In his defense he’s only attempted five, but his lack of perimeter shooting makes it much harder to spread opposing defenses.
While McClinton started 11 games last season and 15 the season before, he played just 3 minutes against Piedmont International and put up a 3 trillion (the only statistics he accumulated were minutes played). It’s difficult for me to see McClinton getting a lot of playing time this season given the additions of Keyshawn Woods and Austin Arians.
What are you all expecting from Greg McClinton this season?
