The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are now done with the BYE week and it’s time to begin preparation to take on the Army Black Knights. Wake Forest enters the contest with a 5-2 record and is seeking to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2011. What does the depth chart look like headed into Saturday’s game?
The first observation is that Kendall Hinton is back on the two-deep, but it is John Wolford “or” Kendall Hinton. Coach Clawson stated today that Wolford will “probably” start against Army. Obviously John Wolford is more than capable of leading Wake Forest past Army, but it’s discouraging if Hinton isn’t 100% by now given that he suffered the sprained MCL more than a month ago.
It is encouraging, however, to see that Josh Harris is back as the starting center, as he has missed the past two games due to injury. Essang Bassey, who performed very well against Florida State, is listed above Dionte Austin for the second starting corner position. Steven Claude is back as the team’s top kick returner. He must have practiced well, because John Armstrong had a kickoff return for a touchdown against Florida State that was called ruled back because of a phantom holding call. Finally, Dayton Diemel has replaced Garrett Wilson as the team’s starting long snapper.
The action will begin on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Hopefully you all will be able to make it to the game at BB&T Field, but if not you can catch all the action on Fox Sports South. Do you all have any thoughts on the changes?
