Chaundee Brown, Wake Forest’s top 2017 target, begins his official visit to Wake Forest today. ESPN ranks him as the 30th best player in the class, and believes that he is a 4-star prospect. Brown’s stock rose greatly over the summer, and he is a prized recruit. By all accounts, he is now down to Wake Forest and Kansas. There’s a strong case to be made that this is the most important official visit during Danny Manning’s tenure at Wake.

Brown took his official visit to Kansas in early September, but he’s also had coaches from Kansas, including head coach Bill Self, visit him since. They are clearly making a strong push for the incredibly talented shooting guard out of Orlando, Florida.
Wake now has the biggest recruiting asset in the bag, which is the official visit. It’s likely that Brown will announce shortly after his official visit, so Wake should have the advantage of being able to make the final pitch. I don’t know what is planned for the weekend, but I’m sure that Brown will have the full attention of the coaching staff, and that this weekend was very well planned.
Wake has prioritized Brown for a very long time, and he would be a fantastic fit in Wake’s system that emphasizes tempo and freedom for wing players. Brown has a college ready body, can shoot from the perimeter, defend, and also put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. A commitment from Brown would change the trajectory of the Wake basketball program under Manning, and help return Wake Forest’s program to where it belongs.
