The 2016 college football season does not begin for another 7+ months, but today the ACC released the conference schedules for every team. It's the third year under head coach Dave Clawson, and the program has clearly improved over the past two years in terms of facility and roster upgrades. This year, however, Wake Forest fans are looking to see an improvement in another area - the win column. Clawson took over a very difficult situation, and went 3-9 during each of his first two seasons in Winston-Salem. In year three, however, the team has the talent, experience, and schedule to make a bowl.
Without further ado, here is Wake Forest's 2016 schedule. Please note that opponents listed in ALL CAPS are home games.
Opponent | Date | 2015 Record | 2015 S&P+ Rank |
TULANE | 9/1 (Thur.) | 3-9 | 120 |
Duke | 9/10 | 8-5 | 75 |
DELAWARE | 9/17 | 4-7 | FCS |
Indiana | 9/24 | 6-7 | 60 |
NC State | 10/1 | 7-6 | 36 |
SYRACUSE | 10/8 | 4-8 | 71 |
Florida State | 10/15 | 10-3 | 7 |
BYE | 10/22 | ||
ARMY | 10/29 | 2-10 | 123 |
VIRGINIA | 11/5 | 4-8 | 73 |
Louisville | 11/12 | 8-5 | 28 |
CLEMSON | 11/19 | 14-1 | 2 |
BOSTON COLLEGE | 11/26 | 3-9 | 67 |
A quick observation is that only North Carolina State is the only ACC opponent to have a BYE week prior to playing Wake Forest. This schedule appears very management in terms of having a BYE during the middle of the season, and not having any brutal stretches. It's also very nice to have extra time to prepare for Duke, and to finally have seven home games.
What are your initial thoughts on the schedule?
We will have more commentary in the coming days.
