It has been nine long months, but the college football season is finally back.
Opponent: Elon Phoenix
Time: 7 P.M.
TV: ESPN3
Location: BB&T Field (Capacity: 31,500)
Head Coach: Rich Skrosky (2nd season; 1-11 overall)
Series History: 9-0-1 (last meeting in 2009)
2014 Record: 1-11, (0-8 CAA; no FCS playoffs)
Bart covered this more in his preview, but Elon is terrible, even by FCS standards. They went just 1-11 last season and will start a freshman at quarterback. Statistics show that a better predictor of future success is not your record in close games, but rather your point differential against inferior opponents. If Wake Forest struggles to protect John Wolford and efficiently move the ball on the ground, then it could be a very long year for the Deacons.
I'm expecting Wake Forest to score 35+ points tonight. If they do not score as many, then I think that should be a cause of concern for Wake Forest fans. Still, I will judge this year just as I did the last one: improvement throughout the season.
I'm fired up to be able to watch the Deacs hit the field again! As always, go Deacs!
