2023 Wake Forest Basketball Recruiting: Samartine "Fatman" Bogues

Parody warning. I think.

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

Muggsy Bogues was a Wake Forest star in his day. Despite his 5'3" frame, his jersey is retired at Wake, and he played 15 seasons in the NBA. Apparently his gene pool is a great one to have if you want to be a basketball player. His 5th grade grandson, Samartine "Fatman" Bogues is a stud. Could the 2023 recruit be the second Bogues to have his jersey retired at Wake Forest? Let's break down his game!

Strengths

His nickname is elite. Fatman? That rivals Vince Carter's nickname of Air Canada. HANDLES. My goodness can this kid dribble. He also threw some dimes, but his teammates don't exactly have the motor skills yet to catch the ball. Once they get those, look for his assist totals to soar.  His floater is on point. If he stays this height, that shot is going to be NECESSARY. Also, that step-back three at the 35-second mark?! SWISH!

Areas of Improvement

Still quite small. He's going to have to grow a few inches and develop strength if he wants to play at the collegiate level. I also have to question the level of competition. How good are these kids? Not exactly the toughest players to defend if you ask me. He also plays below the rim. With point guards like Russell Westbrook in the league, lay-ups just aren't going to cut it anymore. Anybody who tells you that two points is two points couldn't dunk. That's just a fact.

In all seriousness, be sure to check out the video. Samartine's talent is quite remarkable.
