Dave Clawson and his staff added yet another impressive recruit for the class of 2016 with the addition of three star safety Traveon Redd. Redd chose Wake Forest over Maryland and Vanderbilt, but as Ned Harwood posited yesterday, it was primarily down to Wake and Vanderbilt. Redd is the 11th ranked safety in the east division according to Scout.com, and is the 17th member of the Wake Forest 2016 recruiting class.
Redd hails from Ridgeway, Virginia, where he attends Magna Vista High School. At 5'11, 180 pounds, Redd will continue to add weight throughout his senior year and likely be a force in the secondary for years to come in Winston-Salem. Last season he racked up 135 tackles, had four interceptions, 15 pass break ups, and forced 7 fumbles. That is exactly why the coaching staff wanted him so badly.
It has been made pretty clear that Redd, along with running back Moe Neal (who will make his college decision tomorrow), was one of the highest priorities left in the 2016 class for the coaching staff. Beating schools like Vanderbilt will be critical to Dave Clawson's success at Wake Forest, and he has done so on numerous occasions.
Welcome to Wake Forest Traveon! We can't wait to see you on campus and on the field!
