For the next player profile we look to a local product in linebacker Kalin McNeil out of Northeast Guilford High School (McLeansville). The 6-1, 225 pound McNeil was rated the No. 31 prospect in North Carolina in the 2014 class by National Underclassmen.
McNeil is coming into his first year of eligibility after redshirting his true freshman season under head coach Dave Clawson. He played linebacker, safety, and running back for NE Guilford, so it will be interesting to see if he plays any at the rover position moving forward. While it is likely that Wary will fall into that role after this year, McNeil is also a viable candidate in my opinion.
It is also interesting to note that in last year's player profile we had McNeil listed at 190 pounds, so that's a pretty impressive 35 pound weight gain over the course of the year.
If he does wind up playing more of an outside linebacker position he will be competing for a starting role with Jaboree Williams, Teddy Matthews, Grant Dawson, and any breakout/new recruit that comes in next season.
McNeil chose Wake Forest over East Carolina and Elon. He was rated as the 100th best outside linebacker and a consensus 3-star according to the 247 2014 composite rankings.
