Christian Beal, a 2017 all-purpose back out of East Forsyth High School, announced today on Twitter that he has verbally committed to play football for Wake Forest University. Beal is a 5'9", 180 pound all-purpose back, who chose Wake Forest over offers from Duke, East Carolina, and Old Dominion. He is the first Wake Forest commit in the 2017 recruiting class.

Despite being just a sophomore last season, Beal was incredibly productive. He carried the ball 144 times for 1,269 yards, which is an average of 8.8 yards/carry, and he also scored 19 touchdowns. In addition to playing in the backfield, he can also line up in the slot. Beal demonstrated his good hands by hauling in 37 receptions for 614 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has legitimate 4.5 speed, and could be a playmaker for the Demon Deacons in the future. It's worth pointing out that he cannot sign a letter of intent for another 18 months. Perhaps by then, there will be an early signing period in college football.
His Hudl video is the first one I've seen that starts out with him dunking a football, which is very impressive considering that he is just 5'9". This is an excellent start to the 2017 class.
