Jacquez Williams, an athlete out of Georgia, announced on Twitter that he has verbally committed to Wake Forest University. He initially committed to Charlotte on June 16th, but Wake Forest offered on June 18th, and Williams quickly decommitted from the 49ers. He is listed at 6'2" 200 pounds, and runs a 4.5 second 40-yard dash. He is rated as a 2-star recruit by Rivals.com, and recently camped at Wake Forest. He also held offers from Georgia State and UMass.
Williams, who is listed as an athlete on Rivals, will play on the defensive side of the ball. He will play either outside linebacker or safety. Defensive coordinator Mike Elko runs a 4-2-5 defensive scheme, and that scheme has a rover or outside linebacker/safety hybrid. Clearly the staff views Williams as a player who could fill that role.
Jacquez is Wake's 14th verbal commitment of the 2016 recruiting class, and is the first recruited to play the rover position.
