Head coach Dave Clawson has struck for the third time in four days on the recruiting trail. This time it isn't a running back, but a cornerback/wide receiver out of Columbus, Georgia in Essang Bassey. Bassey visited Wake Forest for a camp this weekend, picked up an offer, and promptly committed to Clawson and Co. today.
Bassey is a three-star for the 2016 recruiting class, and is the 13th player to commit to Wake Forest. He ranks as the 843rd best player in the nation, and 78th in the state of Georgia.
Blessed, thankful, and extremely excited to be committed to Wake Forest University!! #GoDeacs #TheaWAKEning pic.twitter.com/G4PYEgX4gk

According to 247Sports Bassey had an offer from Georgia State back in May. The 5-9, 180 pound Bassey also had interest from Air Force, Army, Wofford, Furman, and Charleston Southern. Despite performing well in camps over the past year it has not translated into many high level offers for the three-star.
It is safe to say that the staff came away very impressed with him and believes he is another under-the-radar kid that will produce results for the Deacs.
Some of the hesitation may have to do with his height and size, but his camp results stand on their own where he ran a 4.6 40, and recorded a 41-inch vertical. When you have hops like that it can overcome a lack of a couple of inches.
The turnaround was very quick, with Wake offering yesterday and Bassey accepting today. This has proven to be a familiar trait with a lot of the commits recently. Always good to see guys jumping on offers from Wake Forest quickly.
