Harry Giles wrote another blog entry today. What did he have to say about the Deacs?

In Harry Giles' latest blog entry he discusses his AAU season, and how the recruiting process is going. Giles also indicated that he may announce his college decision before the start of his senior season. What did he have to say about his top schools?

On Wake Forest

With Wake Forest, Coach Manning talked about how me coming there could change the whole city. It was almost like they’d make me the mayor of the city! I thought that whole presentation was cool and I like him because we’re about the same height and we played the same position. I definitely have a lot of respect for him because of that.

I am most definitely a fan of Manning's recruiting pitch to Giles, and think that it's absolutely true. If he goes to Duke or Kentucky, he'll be just another one in a long line of products those basketball factories have produced. If he comes to Wake, then he'll be loved by Wake fans forever. Fans still love CP3, who only attended the school for two years. Manning being a former #1 overall NBA pick can also help Giles achieve his goal. He can't say he has coached a #1 overall draft pick like Coach Cal or Coach K, but they can't say they were on themselves either.

It goes without saying that Wake landing Giles would have a profound impact on Wake's program and Danny Manning's tenure. Landing Giles means more to Wake than it does to any other school that is recruiting him. Giles instantaneously makes Wake a legitimate contender and brings the Deacs back to the national stage. If Duke or Kentucky miss on him, then they'll go land another very good player, though not as good as Giles. If he truly wants to go where he'll have the most impact on a team, program, and city, then he'll go to Wake Forest.

On Duke

The Duke in-home was really cool because they’re the champs! I was excited about them coming and it was definitely a 10 out of 10. They talked about winning the title and how they’d use me to get another one.

Though Giles has only officially released a top 8, it seems clear that Wake Forest, Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina are the four favorites to land the highly-coveted prospect. If I'm handicapping it even further, then I would guess it comes down to Wake Forest and Duke. He tends to have very positive things to say about Duke, and it doesn't help Wake that Duke just won the national title.
