This was not a fun game to watch a second time. Let's not sugarcoat it, Georgia Tech straight up dominated Wake in this one. The Deacs started off slowly and never really got things going. The Yellow Jackets held Wake to just 29.7% shooting and hit 9 3-pointers in the game to win by a score of 73-59. The score was much closer than the actual game.
If not for Cornelius Hudson and Dinos Mitoglou, this probably would have been a 30+ point loss. These were the only two guys for Wake Forest that were able to do anything offensively.
Hudson had a game high 19 points, including 3 3-pointers.
Dinos added 15 points on 5-9 shooting, including 3-5 from downtown. No other Wake Forest player had more than 7 points. This was just not a great day offensively for the Deacs.
On the other end of the court, Geogia Tech seemingly scored whenever they wanted. The Yellow Jackets shot 45% from the field and made 9-20 3-pointers (45%), which is ridiculous for a team that was shooting in the high 20s percent wise from downtown going into this game.
Tech also was able to get easy baskets on the inside because of their size and strength. They easily bullied the Wake defenders, especially when Devin Thomas was not in the game.
If you want a gif to sum up how this game went, I think this is the one.
Marcus Georges-Hunt makes a nice floater in the lane, and then Chris Bolden steals the inbound and drains a 3. If that one doesn't do it for you, fear not, because I have another one.
In this one, you can see all 5 Wake Forest players turn their backs on the guy with the ball, the only guy on the court who can score, and Demarco Cox gets a free dunk. The Deacs were just out of sync all game, and Georgia Tech took advantage.
This was a bad game for the Deacs, but everyone is allowed to have bad games. Hopefully Wake can get back on track against Miami, because if they don't, the next 3 games, UVA twice and Notre Dame, will not be fun to watch.
