Coach Clawson and his staff added some versatility to the Wake Forest defense with the signing of Chris Calhoun. Calhoun is a consensus 3-star prospect and can play either outside linebacker or defensive end. He is listed as the 41st best inside linebacker in the country according to 247's composite ratings. He could eventually find himself in the "drop" role in Wake's new 4-2-5 scheme, in which a defensive lineman may drop into coverage or rush the passer. Chris chose Wake Forest over Indiana, Minnesota and Virginia. He also has a great build at 6'3" 220 pounds.
Calhoun has not been talked about much on Wake Forest recruiting threads or this site, but visiting the highlight tape and his offer list, Calhoun could turn out to be one of the better defensive players on this team in several years. His versatility could be a huge asset for Wake, and I look forward to watching how defensive coordinator Mike Elko will use him in his system.
