Wake Forest played host to the Canes on Wednesday night, and were looking to get things back on track after a poor showing at Georgia Tech. The Deacs came out of the gates early, got a sizable lead, lost the lead in the second half (stop me if you've read this one before), and were able to finish down the stretch to take the W, 72-70.
The most notable performance in this game for Wake Forest had to be Dinos Mitoglou, aka the Greek Deac. In the first half alone, Mitoglou had 16 points on 5-5 shooting from the 3-point line.
Mitoglou finished the game with 21 points, shooting 6-7 from the 3 point line.
This game featured another great first half from Wake, and it seemed like every shot was going down again. The Deacs ended the first with 11 made 3-pointers and a 42-33 lead.
In the second half, the Canes went on a few runs to catch up by driving the ball down the lane and either finishing, getting fouled, or kicking out for three.
The comeback was led by Angel Rodriguez, who had all 15 of his points in the second half. The Canes would eventually take the lead in the second half on a nice drive from James Palmer.
With about 2 minutes to go in the game, Codi Miller-McIntrye drove the lane, took the foul, and finished the basket.
Not only did the basket give Wake Forest the lead, but it also put Codi over the 1000 point mark for his Wake Forest career, becoming the 50th Demon Deacon to accomplish this.
With the game tied at 70-70, Miller-McIntrye would again drive the lane, this time dumping the ball down to Devin Thomas for the go ahead basket.
In the closing seconds, Rodriguez's game tying layup wouldn't drop, and the Deacs were able to pick up their 4th ACC win of the season.
The Deacs will need to play a whole game like they did in the first half of this one if they want to beat 2nd ranked Virginia on Saturday.
