Wake Forest has announced the opening of Top Hat Tavern at BB&T Field, which will serve beer and wine to the general public on game days. The tavern will be located behind the video board and Deacon Hill on the south side of the stadium. Previously, beer and wine was only sold at BB&T Field to those patrons either sitting in Deacon Tower or Bridger Field House.

Top Hat Tavern will open 90 minutes prior to kickoff and will remain open until the end of the third quarter, which is customary of other venues. The tavern will be in a roped-off area that requires a valid ID to enter. Alcohol may only be consumed in that designated area and patrons are limited to three drinks. Ron Wellman, director of athletics, stated "We are always looking to enhance the game day experience for all of our fans. We feel we have a service model that will be controlled and responsible."

More than 30 FBS teams nationally are now selling alcohol to general patrons. Beer and wine will be available this Saturday when the Deacs take on Gardner-Webb.
