Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Williams is No. 27 on the Blogger So Dear player countdown. As a freshman last year, Williams played in 11 games with four starts. He caught 17 balls for 221 yards, including 5 catches for 143 yards against Presbyterian in his debut. It was the most yards for a Deacon receiver ever in a debut.
Williams is from Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended mays High School. Wake Forest was his first offer and he accepted it, putting a quick end to his recruiting process. He was the No. 197 wide receiver in the country according to 247sports, and a three-star prospect.
Based on what we have seen at practice, Williams is slated to be the backup outside receiver to Matt James. At 6-4, 185, he is an easy target, and with 4.55 speed in the 40, it makes for a pretty well-rounded receiver.
Although he had a breakout first game, Williams caught just 4 balls in his final 9 games. Hopefully a year of experience brings out more consistency in his game.
