Player Countdown: No. 33 QB Travis Smith

True freshman QB Travis Smith is number 33 on our BSD player countdown.

EDITORS NOTE: DUE TO AIRYN WILLIS NO LONGER BEING ON THE TEAM, THE NUMBERS HAVE ALL SHIFTED.

Travis Smith, out of Ithaca, Michigan, is number 33 in our BSD player countdown. He is a quarterback, and is currently vying with Kevin Sousa, John Wolford, and Tyler Cameron for the starting quarterback position.

Smith chose Wake Forest over Toledo, where he was committed until Coach Clawson and Coach Ruggiero took over the Deacs after Coach Grobe's departure.

He had one of the best high school careers in Michigan football history, leading Ithaca to a 41-0 record as a three year starter. He threw for 42 touchdowns and 7 INTS during his senior season, as he claimed the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year award.

Smith also holds the Michigan high school record for career touchdown passes with 104. He was the No. 24 rated dual threat passer in the class of 2014 according to Rivals.com.

Based on what we have seen at fall practice, Smith has a nice arm and can do a lot of damage with his legs. He is on the same learning curve as Wolford, but has looked good in the 11 v. 11 snaps that he has taken. It is unclear at this juncture what role he will play this year, as nobody has grabbed the bull by the horns. He has seen less snaps that Wolford and Cameron, but as we get into full practices this week things could change.
