The number 5 player on our BSD Player Countdown is linebacker Marquel Lee. Lee is a true sophomore out of Waldorph, Maryland. The Maryland native was a consensus 3-star prospect and chose Wake Forest over the University of Maryland, among others. Last season his primary role was as a special teams contributor, but he also saw time as a reserve linebacker. Lee finished the season with 14 total tackles.
While it may be concerning for Wake Forest fans, that a player who did not start last year is our 5th ranked player, I believe Lee is due for a breakout season. He finished the spring game with 9 total tackles, and has been excellent throughout fall camp. He's in excellent condition and will be able to defend passing routes, in addition to providing excellent support at stopping the run. The Deacs have a pair of excellent linebackers in Marquel Lee and Brandon Chubb. Wake Forest fans should get to know Marquel Lee, who will be wearing number 8 this season, because he is going to be a good one.
Check back tomorrow to find out who comes in at number 4.
