The number 10 player in the BSD player countdown has an unlikely, yet incredibly story. Number 10 is Hunter Williams, who despite recording 141 tackles as a junior, leading his team to a 14-1 record and having a high school GPA of 4.66, he was vastly under recruited out of high school. Just take a look at all 0 of his stars on his Rivals page. Williams joined the Wake Forest football team three years ago as a preferred walk-on out of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Wake discovered the young man when recruiting his high school and current teammate Dylan Intemann. Wake was the only Power 5 school to give him that opportunity.
Williams redshirted in 2011, and therefore did not see any game action. In 2012 he played in two games (North Carolina State and Notre Dame), but recorded zero tackles. In 2013, however, Williams was one of Wake's breakout players. He played in 11 games, including 9 starts. He finished the season with 39 tackles, a half sack and 2 fumble recoveries. Just this past week, Williams was named a team captain. He will be the defense's starting rover, and will be a significant contributor to the success of the 2014 Wake Forest football team.
In just three short years, Hunter Williams went from walk-on to team captain. Hunter is one of the great stories in the ACC, and I'm proud that he's a Demon Deacon.
