Player Countdown: No. 20 DE Desmond Floyd

Defensive end Desmond Floyd is the number 20 player on our countdown.

RS junior Desmond Floyd, a 6-5, 250 pound defensive end out of Union County HS in Jonesville, SC. He is vying for the starting spot opposite Zach Allen against Duke Ejiofor and Wendell Dunn.

Floyd has played in 16 games as a Demon Deacon, including 11 games last season where he racked up 10 tackles, 2 sacks for 5 yards, and 3 pass deflections.

An injury has kept Floyd out of most of the fall practices so far, but based on the flashes he showed last year spelling Kris Redding and Zach Thompson he should be a force on the D-Line for the Deacs. He did get back to practice yesterday, so hopefully this will be behind him and he will go on to have a big year.

Floyd has one of the best offer lists of any Jim Grobe commit, choosing Wake Forest over Arkansas, Maryland, South Carolina, West Virginia and N.C. State.

His athleticism for a big guy is extremely impressive, and having witnessed him in intramural basketball my senior year at Wake, his vertical leap is not in question either.

The best news for Floyd is that he learned behind two defensive ends that are now in the NFL. He is also competing with very talented youngsters for the starting spot, which should push him even harder. Floyd has a big two years ahead of him, and I think he will be a bright spot for Wake Forest.
