Recruiting Spotlight: WR Freddie Simmons Jr.

Will the Deacs be able to add another stud wide receiver to an already impressive 2015 class?

Student Sports

Freddie Simmons Jr. is a 6'3 175lb wide receiver from Bethlehem, PA. Simmons visited Wake on June 12th and is one of coach Clawson's top wide receiver targets. He currently holds offers from Buffalo, California, Connecticut, Kansas, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia, San Diego St., Western Michigan as well as the Deacs. According to a tweet earlier this week by Freddie, Wake is in an excellent position.

Simmons is a freak of an athlete and has only played one year of high school football because of a previous commitment to basketball. In his first season he finished with 50 receptions, 700 yards and 11 touchdowns. Though he lacks a ton of football experience this isn't evident in his tape where he looks relatively polished. His ball skills and placement on the field shows a unique understanding of the game that will only improve with coaching and experience. The combination of size and speed is truly elite and I expect a break out senior season from him.

Adding a player with Simmons' size and speed would go a long way after losing Kameron Uter and Jaylan Barbour. He would make a perfect fit as an outside receiver and would have a chance to make an immediate impact. He would also be joining a very impressive 2015 class that has moved up to #40 nationally.
