Number 65 in our player countdown is tight end Neil Basford. Basford is coming into his redshirt junior season, and has seen a bit of turmoil during his time in Winston-Salem. He came in to Wake pretty highly touted, choosing the Deacs over offers from Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Florida State, and Arkansas.
Despite this talented list of schools, Basford has struggled with his health, as a torn achilles kept him out for the entire 2012 season. He got switched to offensive tackle last year, where he would have contributed in the two-deep, but once again injuries prevented him from seeing a lot of action.
It is likely that he will move back to the tight end position for this year, but has a lot of competition for the starting spot, where RS So. Zach Gordon will presumably wind up. RS Fr. Cam Serigne will also provide some push for snaps as well.
Basford is listed at 6'5'',260, and if he can remain injury free throughout the season, should provide some good depth overall for the Deacs.
