Coming in at number 40 on our player countdown is freshman Devin Pike. Pike is a 6'6" 225 pound tight end out of Elder High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was originally committed to Louisville, but flipped his commitment to Wake Forest following the departure of Louisville head coach Charlie Strong and the arrival of Wake Forest's new coaching staff. He was a consensus 3-star recruit and was rated the number 29 tight end in his class by ESPN.
Coach Clawson stated that he will be utilizing more twin tight end sets this season, and I believe Pike will be the one paired opposite starting tight end Zach Gordon. Pike is the tallest tight end on the roster at 6'6", and is also known for being an excellent blocker. His run blocking could be extremely beneficial if he can open up a few holes for running back Orville Reynolds. Cam Serigne should also see time at tight end, but I believe Pike will play as a true freshman. With Jake Bargas coming in next season, the Deacs are set up nicely at tight end moving forward.
