Wake Forest Player Countdown: No. 45 Linebacker Lance Virgile

What role will the redshirt freshman play in 2014?

Dean Shore

Coming in at number 45 on our player countdown is outside linebacker Lance Virgile, who is a redshirt freshman out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Virgile was rated the a 4-star outside linebacker in the 2013 recruiting class by ESPN.com, and chose the Deacs over Louisville and West Virginia.

Virgile is a player I really liked coming out of high school and believe he will be a starting linebacker at some point during his Wake Forest career. I also think he has the versatility, like a Zachary Allen, to play some defensive end if needed. This season I would expect him to mostly contribute on special teams, which is still a very important role. He'll definitely be behind Brandon Chubb and Marquel Lee on the depth chart, and will probably be behind Teddy Matthews, Steve Donatell and Jaboree Williams. Although, Virgile is right there with the final three. In the spring game he recorded 3 tackles, including a half tackle for loss.

Check back in tomorrow to see who comes in at number 44. We're just a little over a month away from kickoff!
