Wake Forest Player Countdown: No. 50 P/PK Mike Weaver

What role will this specialist play?

Dean Shore

Coming in at number 50 in our player countdown is place kicker/punter Mike Weaver. Mike is a redshirt freshman out of Southside High School in Pine City, New York. According to the Wake Forest website, Weaver chose Wake Forest over Cincinnati and Miami.

Weaver has the chance to contribute to this year's team in a variety of ways; he could potentially be the starting place kicker on the team, be a kickoff specialist, and can punt if Alex Kinal gets injured. In the spring game Weaver had four punts with an average of 40.8 yards/punt and 3 went inside the 20 yard line. He also had two kickoffs with one touchback. I rated him above last year's kicker Chad Hedlund because of his versatility. I believe that incoming freshman Adam Centers will be the starter, but I envision Weaver as the kickoff specialist due to his stronger leg.
