Wake Forest Football Recruiting: Phillip Haynes Commits to Wake Forest

Wake Forest received its fourth 2015 commit on Saturday night.

Grant Halverson

Wake Forest received a commitment last night from defensive lineman Phillip Haynes, who is originally from Raleigh, but is currently attending Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia. He committed after the first day of Wake Forest football camps, which had more than 300 players in attendance. Haynes impressed the coaching staff enough at camp to earn a scholarship offer and he accepted it that night. Haynes is a 6'6" 260 defensive end, who has the frame to grow up to 300 pounds and play defensive tackle. Haynes has been playing football for just over two years, but recorded 37 tackles last season and also had three sacks. Phillip grew up playing basketball and the coaching staff believes that athleticism, along with his current football production, will translate to an ACC football player.

Haynes joins a 2015 recruiting class that is loaded with players in the trenches. Haynes will join fellow defensive linemen Lee Autry and Paris Black, as well as offensive tackle T.J. Haney. Please join me in welcoming Phillip to Wake Forest! You can follow him on Twitter @HIS_glory.
