Wake Forest Player Countdown: No. 82 Airyn Willis

Dean Shore

Coming in at number 82 on our player countdown is wide receiver Airyn Willis. Airyn is a redshirt junior who attended Southwest Guilford in High Point, North Carolina. The 247 composite ratings ranked Willis as the 24th best athlete and the 700th best player overall in the 2011 recruiting class. He played running back and receiver during his junior season before playing quarterback during his senior year. He chose Wake Forest over Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Willis, unfortunately, has yet to live up to those lofty expectations. Willis has yet to record a reception in either of his first two non-redshirt seasons and was also suspended for one game during the 2012 season. Willis is number 82 because even though Wake Forest lost Michael Campanaro due to the NFL Draft, Willis is still behind at least seven receivers on the roster in my opinion. When you add in that Wake signed three receivers in the 2014 recruiting class, it just doesn't appear that likely that Willis will see the field very often. I'm rooting for him to be able to be a solid contributor this season, but I just don't think that's going to happen.

Should I have ranked Airyn higher? Check in tomorrow when we revel who is number 81 in our 85 player countdown.
