Coming in at number 73 on our player countdown is Brendan O'Neil. Brendan is a redshirt freshman tight end out of Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Brendan was a 3-star recruit out of high school, according to 247's composite rankings and was the 74th best tight end in the 2013 recruiting class.
O'Neil checks in at number 74 because there is a log jam at tight end, and that is a position that has recently gone unused in the Wake Forest offense. New offensive coordinator Warren Ruggiero likes to utilize spread formations, so it's not likely to see many twin tight end sets. There are five scholarship tight ends on the roster, and I am having trouble seeing where O'Neil stands out. Zach Gordon is slated to start and I also expect freshman tight end Devin Pike to see the field. Fellow redshirt freshman Cam Serigne looked good in spring practice, and redshirt junior Neil Basford returns to tight end after last year's stint as an offensive lineman. He bulked up last year, but should be able to contribute in run block situations.
On Monday we will pick up with number 72.
