Wake Forest Player Countdown: No. 74 Jaylan Barbour

Frederick Breedon

Coming in at number 74 on our player countdown is Jaylan Barbour, who is a freshman wide receiver out of Monroe High School in Monroe, North Carolina. He is a 5'9" 170 pound receiver, who was rated as the 118th best receiver prospect in the 2014 recruiting class according to 247's composite ratings. Barbour committed to Wake Forest last August and chose the Deacs over Duke, N.C. State, and West Virginia. He finished his Monroe career with 132 career receptions, 2,240 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns.

Barbour is an elusive slot receiver, but he is probably going to redshirt this season. E.J. Scott is slated as the current starter in the slot and Johnny Armstrong is the backup. I rated him above Matt James, who cannot redshirt, because I believe if Barbour gets on the field that he will have a bigger impact. He does possess great speed and can break open big plays. Barbour has potential to be a solid contributor moving forward, but I'd still expect a redshirt. Check back tomorrow when we unveil number 73.
