Coming in at number 75 on the countdown is DaiQuan Lawrence, who is a 6'1" 185 pound cornerback out of Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Lawrence was a consensus 3-star recruit in the 2014 recruiting class and chose Wake Forest over Syracuse and Virginia, among others. He was recruited by Coach Derrick Jackson.
Lawrence is ranked here because of how crowded Wake's secondary already is. The starting corners will be Kevin Johnson and Merrill "Bud" Noel, while Allen Ramsey will probably be the nickel. There are also three sophomore corners in Brad Watson, Jalen Latter and Deonte Davis, who all played as true freshmen last season. Redshirt freshman Josh Okonye has also had a good spring.
Lawrence will have to overcome a lot of returning players just to contribute on special teams. I do think he has the potential to do this, but Clawson could also look to redshirt him this season with so many other talented secondary players on the roster. Lawrence has a future at Wake Forest as a "ball hawk," but Wake fans might not see that until the 2015 season.
