Wake Forest Player Countdown: No. 76 Cameron Gardner

Dean Shore

Coming in at number 76 on our player countdown is Cameron Gardner, who is a 6'5" 275 pounds offensive tackle out of Southern Nash High School in Bailey, North Carolina. Gardner will be a redshirt freshman and was a consensus 2-star recruit in the 2013 recruiting class. 247 composite ranking had him as the 170th best tackle in his class, and the 63rd best player in the state of North Carolina.

Gardner comes in at number 79 on our list due to some lack of size (listed at 275 pounds, though has probably bulked up since that listing) and continuing to learn pass blocking. Gardner came from a high school which ran a run-based offense, and the adjustment will be one that takes time. Gardner could potentially play some guard this season, but Tyler Hayworth and Josh Harris have fairly solidified roles as starters. Reserves Joel Suggs and Will Smith are versatile enough to be ahead of Gardner on the depth chart, and I believe incoming freshmen Patrick Osterhage and Justin Herron will also be higher on the depth chart. Gardner could see limited snaps, but I have a difficult time envisioning anything else.
