Wake Forest Player Countdown: No. 79 Chris Stewart

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Coming in at number 79 on our list is Chris Stewart, who is a defensive end out of Petal, Mississippi. Stewart was a consensus 2-star recruit according to 247 Sports and was originally committed to Louisiana Monroe before flipping his commitment to Wake Forest. He accumulated 149 total tackles over the past two seasons, including 15 tackles for loss.

Chris comes in at 79 due to there being a number of older players being ahead of him as well as the defense's emphasis on speed. Players like Zachary Allen and Wendell Dunn have made the transition from outside linebacker to defensive end as Wake switched to a 4-2-5 defense. Rashawn Shaw, fellow incoming freshman, should be the freshman who gets significant playing time given his recruiting ranking as well as his arrival during the first summer session. Given all that, it's probable that Stewart will be redshirted. He may end up having to have his redshirt burned, but that will be for necessary depth purposes.
