Darius Leonard, a graduate transfer from Campbell, has been offered a scholarship for next season by Danny Manning and Wake Forest. Leonard decided to transfer from Campbell after his junior season, with the ability to transfer and play next season with a new team.
Leonard's game improved greatly during his junior season, when he averaged 10.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 50.4% from the field and 38% from three. At 6'9", Leonard can stretch the floor from the forward spot and can also help in the paint. If he decides to come to Wake Forest, he will bring great versatility and shooting to Wake Forest's forward positions.
Darius Leonard has a unique skill set allows him to fill a role at the college basketball level. He describe his game as "An inside-outside player. I can score back to the basket and also shoot the ball well. I create mismatches on offense and defense."
Leonard had big goals in mind when he decided to transfer. "I decided to transfer after the season. I just wanted to play on a bigger stage. I had a good season and felt I had an actual chance to play professionally."
Darius Leonard has high expectations for the team he ultimately joins. "I am looking for a program that's ready to win, coaches that are willing to help me after my year there is over and a university that is top of the line."
Is Wake Forest a school that Darius Leonard could see filling those expectations? "Yes. Wake Forest is close to home and having friends and family in the program is a great bonus."
Darius Leonard's family connection comes from his cousin, Madison Jones. He is close to his family, saying, "I'm always talking to his mom. She's like my second mom."
Leonard also had great things to say about Danny Manning and Wake Forest's coaching staff: "They have all been great. Manning has told me the future plan and how I would be included. He is a straight-forward guy and I really like that."
With no timetable for his potential decision, it is hard to predict where Darius Leonard will ultimately end up. Wake Forest will definitely be a serious option though. A visit appears likely, as Leonard said "We are working on the dates now to set up a visit."
