Brian Chaffin is a 6'2" 280 pound center who attends Charlotte Christian in Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte Christian is coming off back-to-back state championships and Chaffin and his team are looking to three-peat this fall. The Knights defeated Charlotte Latin 48-10 in last year's state championship game. Last week he was invited to play in the Under Armour All-American game.
Chaffin is a consensus top ten center in the country, according to 247 sports, and he holds offers from Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Boston College, California, and Northwestern among others. He will keep his recruiting completely open during the spring evaluation period, but following this period he will look to narrow down his list to three or four schools before making a decision in the early summer. Brian is choosing to make his decision this early so that he can better focus on his upcoming senior season.
The Charlotte Christian product has a very good relationship with offensive line coach Nick Tabacca. The two first met last summer when Chaffin attended at football camp at the University of Michigan. Tabacca was a coach at Ball State at the time and was asked to be a coach at the camp. The two actually watched film together when Chaffin took an unofficial visit last month, which Brian told me that his commitment to the film room is of his strengths as a player. Chaffin also met with Dave Clawson when he first arrived on campus and was impressed with him because he has won everywhere he has been and has a good vision for the program.
Chaffin is a local product, but he told me that he's open to playing anywhere. He plans to visit Wake Forest again in mid-April and on that trip he's hoping to spend the night on campus and get a better feel for the dorms, among other things, which is something every student should look for when choosing a school. He also wants to continue to get to know the players and coaching staff better.
Thanks again to Brian for taking his time to talk to Blogger So Dear and allowing us to write up this recruiting spotlight. You can follow Brian on Twitter.
