Rising sophomore James Looney will be leaving Wake Forest according to a report by ACC Sports. His name had been removed from the official Wake Forest roster and he had not been at practices or scrimmages as of late. The defensive lineman was part of the 2013 recruiting class and played in seven games as a true freshman last season. Looney assisted on three tackles and also recorded a half sack.
The Lake Worth, Florida native is the younger brother of Joe Looney, who played guard for Wake Forest from 2008-2011. Looney started 41 games over four seasons and currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers.
The Wake Forest defensive line lost all three of its starters from last season, including Nikita Whitlock, who was named to 1st team all-ACC last season. Because of this Looney was expected to get significant playing time this season and potentially start for the Demon Deacons.
Three weeks ago linebacker Kevis Jones also transferred out of the program. Please continue to follow Blogger So Dear for all transfer news.
Looney had over a dozen college offers coming out of high school including Minnesota and South Florida. Blogger So Dear wishes James the best of the luck in the future wherever he ends up.
